But, funny enough, what no one, as far as I have seen, bothers to show you, is the footage of President Obama as he was greeted by Governor Brewer:

This is a snippet of the email Democrats are using to raise campaign dollars. Does this accurateness reflect Brewer's letter?

Instead of welcoming the President at the airport with dignity and decency, she presented him with a demand letter that he accompany her in a visit to the border. And wagging her finger in the President’s face, she lectured him on how she had saved Arizona.

This is what President Obama had to say about the racist scene right out of Little Rock:

“I think it’s always good publicity for a Republican if they’re in an argument with me,” Obama said of their most recent meeting. “But this was really not a big deal. She wanted to give me a letter, asking for a meeting. And I said, ‘We’d be happy to meet.’

Wow. That really warrants this reaction...?

This was taken in 2009. She sure seems mighty friendly then, too.

As Rohrabacher asked of the Maher panel, what did Brewer say that was so horrible? Notice they were all dumbstruck.

Brewer greeted Obama, the got into a discussion about her book, Obama didn't like how she characterized him, and he dismissed her. She was somewhat offended. Instead of discussing jobs and the boarder, Obama was irritated about her portrayal of him in their last meeting. Thin skinned sounds accurate. And she is NOT the only one to call him that. Many, many people on both sides of the aisle have done so. Google it for yourselves, if you don't believe me. There are too many to link.

That photo of Obama and Brewer doesn't tell the story anymore than this one did.

Maher believes a certain level of respect should be given to the office of the presidency.

I have been MIA from the blog-o-sphere lately. My mom is in town visiting, and the weather is SPEC.TAC.U.LAR! We have been out walking almost every day, and shopping, and cooking, and doing all kinds of fun things. We booked a trip to Budapest, and will attend The Nutcracker in the Opera House while we are there. Very excited.

My dad also sent me an iPhone for Christmas, so I have been playing with that as well. And we are also searching for ideas on Christmas presents for Franco...why are men so hard to shop for? I can find a gazillion things *I* would like....but men are impossible. Especially when they are particular.

ari douglas fakes getting run over by nypd scooter #occupywallstreet UPDATES

This video, and the lesser viewed second video, are circulating the interwebs, and Occupy Wall Street'ers are claiming a protester was run over by a NYPD officer.

However, Ari Douglas, a legal observer from the National Lawyers Guild, is just a big fraud.

A snail could have avoided being hit by the slow moving scooter. But, as you can see by the screen caps, he faked the incident.

He's on the ground screaming here, yet both feet are free and clear in front of the tire. Note the policeman's foot is down, his bike is not moving. Yet, somehow Ari's feet manage to travel from in front of the front tire, to underneath the body of the bike, to in front of the back tire, and get *stuck*, even though the bike is stopped.

The motorcycle is stopped, and his foot is still not under the tire.

He is pulling his leg up, obviously his foot is not stuck, nor was it run over.

He moves his legs underneath the body of the motorcycle. Still not under the tires, yet he is withering in *pain*. The cop is stopped and putting the kickstand down. Ari's foot is not under the tire.

Legs are free....

Now he is pressing his right leg up to the tire. Still not driven over, and still not stuck.

Both legs are still free, yet he is still withering around....

His right leg here, the one that is supposedly stuck when he kicks over the motorcycle is bent up under his left leg...

Still nothing stuck, or driven over...

Different angle. The Cops foot is down, he is stopped, Ari's legs are still pretending to be trapped under the front tire.

His right leg is bent...

His right foot that was moving around freely is now *stuck* up to his shin, even though the bike wasn't moving...amazing.

Nothing trapped under any wheels, and nothing driven over. But he sure is in *pain*...

NYPD spokesman Paul Browne said Douglas' face got scratched up while he was resisting arrest - and that he faked everything else.

"Douglas had repeatedly disregarded lawful orders to get out of the street and onto the sidewalk, and then feigned being run over before kicking over the police scooter," he said.

Douglas was charged with resisting arrest, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and other charges, Browne said.

Daily News photographer Joe Marino, who witnessed the confrontation, partly backed the NYPD account.

"The bike definitely hit him," but the officer didn't run him over, he said.

"I saw him sticking his legs under the bike to make it appear he was run over," Marino said of Douglas.

They want to promote socialism, and destroy capitalism. I wonder where they ever got that idea?

fact checking obama's jobs speech and who said what?

The bill hasn't been written yet, so we can't call it a jobs bill.

AP fact checked the jobs speech, and Hot Air summed it up:

In Barack Obama’s speech to the joint session of Congress, the President emphasized that his new jobs plan had four specific qualities that made it easy to pass this bill immediately, as Obama chanted repeatedly during his speech. His plan would be fully funded, it would not add to the deficit, it would create jobs immediately, and it was chock-full of bipartisan ideas. The Associated Press fact-checked these claims, and found them all false.

Paid for? No.

Bipartisan? Uh-uh.

Deficit-neutral? Negative.

And immediately effective? Not even close.

However, the same elements Obama insisted last night would stimulate job growth were the same elements that comprised the 2009 stimulus bill. We have the same speeded-up infrastructure spending (this time masquerading as an “infrastructure bank”), the same money for state bailouts dressed up as rescue packages for teachers and first responders, the same Making Work Pay-type temporary tax cut for workers, and a “hiring tax credit” that flopped when Jimmy Carter first tried it.

Obama didn’t offer one single new idea last night. He didn’t even offer an idea on how to pay for the bill, whose price tag Obama never mentioned once in his speech but has now bloated from an initial estimate of $300 billion to $450 billion. Instead, he told Congress to figure out how to carve the cost out of future spending while it battles over meeting its $1.5 trillion commitment from last month’s debt-ceiling increase.

So remember, if Palin uses a map with targets on it, and a year later someone is shot by a crazed lunatic, and the shooting has NOTHING to do with Palin or Conservatives, or Tea Partiers, it's ok to accuse Conservatives of murder. Immediately. Do not wait for facts. Just rush to judgement. And be sure to continue spreading that lie, for months. Repeatedly.

But, when Teamster head James Hoffa declares war on the Tea Party, while warming the stage for President Barack Obama, and yells out:

“We gotta keep an eye on the battle we face: the war on workers. And you see it everywhere, it is the Tea Party. And you know, there is only one way to beat and win that war. The one thing about working people is we like a good fight. And you know what? They got a war, and they got a war with us. There is only going to be one winner and it’s going to be us....Let’s take these sons of bitches out and give America back to America where we belong."

And then a terrible shooting happens the next day, killing several National Guardsmen, there's no reason for the media to speculate whether Hoffa's comments had anything to do with the shooting, or if all the anti-tea party hostility and anger because they want to secure the border had anything to do with the shooting, like they did with Palin in AZ. And why? Cuz Hoffa made the comments, not Palin, silly! Remember!

And remember, when Conservatives try to get the country out of debt, and stop unsustainable spending, they are hostage takers.

Hey, did you happen to hear about the union members who took actual hostages, the other day? It's ok, they're just hard workin' folks! Nothing to see here! Non-violence is their motto!

There's no need for another civility call from Obama, no pleas needed to stop the name calling or *violent, hostile* rhetoric. He doesn't want to be the Speech Police for Democrats, after all! (He reserves his policing for Conservatives.) And come on, Hoffa speaks for himself, not for Obama! But, you know, when surrogates, supporters, or audience members of McCain or Palin said anything, they were fully held accountable by the Obama camp. Among many of the 18 million Americans who supported Hillary Clinton in 2008, the reaction is simple and bitter: “We told you so.”

“There’s no question in my mind that Obama is a one-term president,” says one passionate Democrat. “Even if he were a great president, this economy is a calamity. And in the end, ‘It’s the economy, stupid.’”

“No one ever had to tell Hillary that,” says a disgruntled member of Clinton’s 18 million.

Ed, of course, edited the clip, which takes out the context of what Martha was discussing. She was talking about the massive dependency on the govt. and that the country has become so dependent on federal dollars, that the govt. can't financially handle unexpected things, like the wars.

But I want to ask you one more question because when I watched the president last night, he talked about the things that have driven us to this situation, and he said two wars that we couldn't pay for, a prescription drug plan that, you know, was way too expensive to pay for, and the financial crisis that followed and that was, you know, toward the beginning of his watch and overlapping the Bush administration.

But I couldn't help thinking, well, if we weren't in such a precarious situation and hadn't overextended ourselves to such an incredible extent, where we are sending out 80 million checks a month - the U.S. government - wouldn't we have been able to handle those things like the two wars in a much better, stronger fiscal position, and isn't THAT where we really want to be as a country, where a war doesn't bust us because we've got good fundamentals?

Also, Ed claims a huge chunk of those 80M checks go to veterans - 4.5 million checks got to Veterans. And no where did she say she “would rather use that money on war.”

Who thinks having a huge chunk (~27%) of the country dependent on the federal government is a good idea?? How can you not agree that the country should have money available to handle tragedies and wars, etc. and not drained because 27% of the country is reliant on monthly govt. checks?

Obama voted against the debt-ceiling increase in 2006. He didn’t vote at all on the increases in 2007 and 2008, which combined raised the ceiling by $1.65 trillion, or about two-thirds of the one-time increase he seeks now. Given that Obama was running for President in 2007 and 2008, one can presume that he didn’t want to have that kind of a vote on his record for the campaign, which gives us a real indication of just how routine Obama felt a debt-ceiling hike was then, too.

Obama talks the talk now, but when it came time to cast his own votes when it counted, Obama walked … away.

During his presidential campaign and subsequent battle over a health care law, Mr. Obama quieted crowds with the story of his mother’s fight with her insurer over whether her cancer was a pre-existing condition that disqualified her from coverage.

In offering the story as an argument for ending pre-existing condition exclusions by health insurers, the president left the clear impression that his mother’s fight was over health benefits for medical expenses.

But in “A Singular Woman: The Untold Story of Barack Obama's Mother,” author Janny Scott quotes from correspondence from the president’s mother to assert that the 1995 dispute concerned a Cigna disability insurance policy and that her actual health insurer had apparently reimbursed most of her medical expenses without argument.

Reuters had just reported that FNC’s parent company News Corp. not only didn’t pay any taxes over the last four years, but actually received $4.8 billion in refunds! Ha-ha! Schultz sneered as he informed his viewer(s) that this is the real reason Fox personalities like Bill O’Reilly don’t want to see taxes raised on the “rich”.

Except, uh…News Corp actually paid $4.8 billion in taxes.

Oof.

Never mind the fact that MSNBC’s parent company GE didn’t pay a dime in taxes in 2010. Nothing to see there, I guess.

Cease and Desist, "American Girl": Tom Petty allegedly upset over Bachmann's use of song

She is a darling of the Tea Party, but if Tom Petty has his way when it comes to music at her campaign events, Michele Bachmann may have to back down.

It seems Tom Petty objects to her usage of his popular song “American Girl” at rallies and events. Petty’s management team is apparently getting ready to send a cease-and-desist letter to the Bachmann campaign regarding the tune.

This is not a new problem for Republican hopefuls. Back in 2008, Bon Jovi publicly decried the usage of his band’s song “Who Says You Can’t Go Home” at rallies for Sarah Palin. Likewise, the Foo Fighters came out that same year against John McCain’s usage of their song “My Hero, “ ditto for Van Halen and the song ”Right Now.”

But the most ironic point of all? As Hot Air Pundit NBC notes, (via Hot Air Pundit), Petty never said a word when Hillary Clinton used the same “American Girl” song during her 2008 campaign.

Maher calls her a “dumb twat” on his TV show, Madonna screams “Sarah [Fu**ing] Palin” while on stage, and comedians use graphic, severely bleeped language to describe how Palin gave birth to a “retard.” One entertainer after another calls Palin a “slut” or a “[bit**]” or describes the intensity with which they “hate her.”

NY Times Reports Bachmann's 'John Wayne' Flub, Ignored Obama's Awful Fallen Soldier Error

New York Times reporter Jeff Zeleny was with Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann in Waterloo, Iowa, at the official launching of her presidential campaign for Tuesday’s “Bachmann Opens Campaign as Expectations Grow.” But Zeleny concluded his mostly balanced story with a reference to Bachmann’s latest in a “string of gaffes” – her mistaken claim that Western movie star John Wayne had been born in Waterloo, Iowa (though his parents met there).

Yet the Times has totally ignored a far more by President Obama, who wrongly claimed in a speech he gave June 23 to the Army's 10th Mountain Division that he had awarded a Medal of Honor to a living soldier. Jared Monti had actually had been killed in Afghanistan in 2006 and had been bestowed the honor posthumously. Obama apologized to the family.

MSNBC's Bashir Defends Media Not Hitting Obama for Gaffes

But Bashir doubled down on his complaint, offering a defense of why he and others in the media don't remind Americans of every gaffe that President Obama or other Democrats make:

BASHIR: I guess the difference though is that the President and Mr. Biden haven't been running around draping themselves in the flag and claiming to be originalists who were going to return the country to its original greatness, and suddenly these people are making comments that one would think they'd know were true or otherwise.

Why did Sarah Palin's (correct) comments about Paul Revere warrant massive amounts of media attention, including insults from people like, "she's a f*cking idiot", and yet Obama's incorrect comments about the Statue of Liberty have garnered nary a peep?

Not only did he get the story wrong, he got the poem wrong.

The media went crazy with glee, attacking Palin for her (correct) answer that she tossed out at a pizzeria. The media remains virtually silent about errors made by Obama, in a prepared speech, fumbling both the history and the poem.

I guess, though, it's easier for them to focus on Sarah Palin and her bus tour, than what's happening (or not happening) in the White House.

Is it any wonder?

What Did We Learn from the Sarah Palin Email Witch-Hunt?

Someone decided we needed to see the emails from her time as Governor of Alaska. Good thing we spent so much time and money on this epic failure. No big bombshell, or secret was uncovered. It was a crazy witch-hunt that made everyone involved, other than Mrs. Palin, look stupid.

The only reason to look into her emails was to attempt to find something to use against and her, and perhaps end her political career, but there was nothing interesting. Nothing of particular relevance, or anything that would immediately eliminate her from a presidential race. There was nothing.

You can’t help but wonder why it has not been requested that we see all the emails of Mitt Romney from when he was the Governor of Massachusetts. Why don’t we demand the emails of everyone who is going to run for President? That would be the fair thing to do.

Her emails on the matter fulminate against what she insists are false accusations, maintaining the same consistent defense — that Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan was fired for performance, not personal, reasons.

Palin comes across as neither an airhead nor a prima donna. She is warm and supportive with her staff, who are loyal to her in turn. She frequently misspells in haste or phonetically (“nonsensicle” for “nonsensical”), but her writing is fluent and grammatical.

Nor is she a figurehead. She is active in guiding policy, a self-assured politician who knows where she stands. When she feels she’s been left out of the loop on responding to a disaster, she’s adamant — “someone from Homeland Security/Emergency Management needs to call me and inform me on things like this … I insist on being informed during any situation where the public would feel any person could be in danger.”

That’s right: both the Washington Post and the New York Times have announced they will publish the emails tomorrow as they get them, and they want readers to read over them, find the things that are “most interesting” or “most noteworthy,” and email notes on those portions to the respective papers. (Any of you who did a research intensive degree in college know what this means: it means the newspaper is then going to take those “most interesting” pieces, paste them on the front page of their website, and say, “Look here folks! As the world has attempted to make sense of Rep. Anthony Weiner’s claim that his Twitter account was hacked, a key clue has been missing: exactly how the notorious groin pic was posted online.

But according to data provided exclusively to The Daily from TweetCongress.org, a nonprofit website that captures each member of Congress’s Twitter feeds in real time, the shot seen round the world was transmitted using TweetDeck — a popular Adobe desktop application that links up with social networking sites. A review of Weiner’s Twitter stream from May 27, the day of the crotch pic, shows that Weiner had been posting only from TweetDeck — one of many ways to post messages to Twitter — that entire night.

Let me start this post by saying something that has now become quite clear: U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner's (D-N.Y.) Twitter account was not hacked. He sent the image of his penis to a Twitter follower and has now engaged in a convoluted attempt to cover it up.

I make this argument not because I wish any ill on the congressman. (I personally don't think politicians should be judged on their sex lives, but solely on their performance in office.) Instead, I write this because it's the only conclusion I believe a reasonable person can reach when watching his behavior.

Further preface: I initially believed Weiner. It made sense to me that some right-winger hacked his account in a mean-spirited attack to discredit him personally. Knowing nothing more, I accepted this explanation at face value. But then I heard Weiner start to explain himself and everything changed. The more he talked, the more it became obvious that not only is the photo of him, but he sent it.

After a week of facing questions about lewd Twitter photos, Rep. Anthony Weiner Saturday had more explaining to do: why his Nissan Pathfinder has New York license plates but a 2007 registration sticker.

A photo of Weiner behind the wheel of his more than 20-year-old SUV appeared in Saturday's Daily News as he left his Washington home Friday night.

It had a New York license plate - US Congress 9 - but no sign of an inspection sticker in the windshield and what appeared to be an expired July 2007 registration sticker.

For their first meeting yesterday, Kate wore a simple but stylish £175 bandage dress in fashionable ‘nude’ from Reiss, one of the few truly British fashion brands left on the planet.

She looked every inch the modern and fashionable style icon she has become. As soon as Kate’s dress was identified, it promptly sold out, crashing the Reiss website into the bargain, which just shows how powerful she is.

Michelle Obama, on the other hand, looked like a little girl in a too short pink bolero (I hate boleros – and only six-year-olds should wear pink!) that my fashion spies tell me is not even vintage, it’s just old. Ouch.

The pale blue floral Fifties gown by Barbara Tfank, a Los Angeles-based designer who dresses everyone from singer Adele to Vanessa Redgrave, is just too prom and girly for the wife of the President.

Tfank’s dresses retail at around £1,400 – almost ten times what Kate’s dress cost.

But does the First Lady not realise that volume (ie, a puffed-out skirt) has become as unfashionable as snow-washed denim, while teaming a print with a bright colour has been a little overdone of late.

The president and the orchestra at Buckingham Palace this evening were a bit out of synch.

When the president toasted the Queen the orchestra misunderstood a pause and what seemed to be a cue from the president for “God Save the Queen” to begin playing.

“Ladies and gentlemen please stand with me and raise your glasses as I propose a toast,” the president said, putting down his note cards and grabbing his glass. “To her majesty the Queen.”

The president paused, the guests stood, and the orchestra prepared to play.

But the president wasn’t done speaking.

“The vitality –“ the president said before the orchestra began.

Then the familiar tune – you might know it better as “My Country ‘Tis of Thee” – started up.

The president kept going: “ -- of the special relationship between our peoples and for the words of Shakespeare to this blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England,” the president said as the awkward moment played out.

The Queen looked ahead as the UK anthem played.

“To the Queen,” the president finally said.

He lifted his glass to her, she smiled a bit uncomfortably.

But because the song was playing, no one drank from his or her glass, including the president, who put his glass down on the table.

Then once the song was over, everyone raised a glass.

It almost felt like one of those moments at the Academy Awards when the speech from the recipient for Best Original Screenplay goes on too long and the orchestra tries to hustle him or her off the stage.

Kind of weird.

Protocol, apparently, requires the toastmaster to wait until after “God Save the Queen” plays and then begin the toast.

*awkward*

He never did actually drink to the Queen, either. He just put the glass down.

At least it isn’t just our National Anthem that he has issues with.

I just finished taking an apple pie out of the oven, and the house smells so delicious. I saw the recipe on Skip to my Lou, and had everything on hand. I love when that happens.

I *pulsed* the butter just a little too much (eager to use my new immersion blender feature) so my topping came out a little like cinnamon butter instead of crumbly, but oh well. I just kind of spread it over the top.

I haven't tasted it yet, but seriously, it's apples, sugar, cinnamon, and butter... how can it not be delicious?

The appeal of a Mitch Daniels’s presidential run

I hope Mitch Daniels runs for president. Let me go further: I hope he wins the Republican nomination.

I can’t imagine voting for him.

But Daniels’s presence would improve the 2012 campaign. He’d make Barack Obama a better candidate.

And any husband who makes it clear that his wife has a, maybe the, deciding voice in whether to launch a presidential campaign gets even more Marcus points.

I have a soft spot for OMB directors. The job offers a broad perspective on the operations of the federal government and departments’ competing claims for funding. The OMB director knows where the fat is — and the political forces that prevent it from being cut.

I have an even softer spot for governors. Executive experience isn’t essential to being chief executive, but it helps. Dealing with recalcitrant state legislatures or sluggish state bureaucracies is good seasoning for the national stage. In addition, any president has to grapple with issues of federalism; the current fiscal pressures on states make having occupied the governor’s mansion an even more valuable perspective.

But the real appeal of a Daniels candidacy is that I believe he is serious about reducing the debt and realistic about what it will take to achieve that, as a matter of both substance and politics.

Yes, Daniels as OMB director from 2001 to 2003 oversaw the federal budget’s stomach-churning plunge from surplus to deficit. But in Indiana, where he was actually in charge, Daniels’s performance reflected the reverse: The state went from a $200 million deficit to a $1.3 billion surplus and earned its first AAA bond rating.

In a rigid GOP world of no-new-taxes ideologues, Daniels actually proposed a temporary tax increase to help close the state’s budget gap. He created a health-care plan for uninsured residents not poor enough to qualify for Medicaid — and paid for it in part with higher tobacco taxes. He believes in limited government but implemented all-day kindergarten and pressed for new spending on infrastructure.

Most fundamentally, Daniels understands that compromise is a sign of wisdom, not weakness. “Purity in martyrdom,” he told the Conservative Political Action Conference earlier this year, “is for suicide bombers.” snip

But candidate Daniels would press President Obama to sharpen his focus on getting the debt under control, and to spell out more clearly how that will be accomplished. He would be an especially worthy opponent — even if I flinch at the thought that he might succeed.

So, Obama is such a failure, she wants Daniels in the race, despite ALL of the positives she highlighted that Daniel's has actually accomplished, only to force Obama to actually step up and ACCOMPLISH something?

Ummm…doesn’t that kind of hint at the fact that Obama doesn’t deserve a second term?

She spends the entire article highlighting all of the great things Daniel's (not Obama)has accomplished, then criticizes Obama for not having a focus, or a plan for accomplishing anything on our debt crisis, yet she still supports Obama for a second term...? Baffling.

URGENT: BIN LADEN KILLED IN FIREFIGHT

BURIED AT SEA BY U.S.

Declaring “justice has been done,” President Obama announced late Sunday that Usama bin Laden was killed by U.S. forces in Pakistan, marking the end of the worldwide manhunt that began nearly a decade ago on Sept. 11, 2001.

The president made the stunning announcement within hours of informing congressional leaders. He said bin Laden was killed Sunday, the culmination of years of intelligence gathering. The news drew a large crowd to the front of the White House, as well as in Times Square, as people chanted “USA. USA.”

At 3:30 p.m. EST, a 40-man Navy Seals squadron raided a compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, killing the Al Qaeda leader with a bullet to the head.

Officials said bin Laden’s body, which was in U.S. custody, was given a sea burial.

It was a 10 year effort, which cost thousands of lives, and caused political fighting around the country and world. President Bush made some difficult decisions, and took some controversial actions that produced and led to the information that President Obama and the Navy Seals used to find and kill that SOB. Thank you to all the troops and their families that have devoted their lives to finding and killing Osama bin Laden.

Senior White House officials said early Monday that the trail that led to Osama bin Laden began before 9/11, before the terror attacks that brought bin Laden to prominence. The trail warmed up last fall, when it discovered an elaborate compound in Pakistan.

"From the time that we first recognized bin Laden as a threat, the U.S. gathered information on people in bin Laden's circle, including his personal couriers," a senior official in the Obama administration said in a background briefing from the White House.

After the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, "detainees gave us information on couriers. One courier in particular had our constant attention. Detainees gave us his nom de guerre, his pseudonym, and also identified this man as one of the few couriers trusted by bin Laden."

In 2007, the U.S. learned the man's name.

In 2009, "we identified areas in Pakistan where the courier and his brother operated. They were very careful, reinforcing belief we were on the right track."

In August 2010, "we found their home in Abbottabad," not in a cave, not right along the Afghanistan border, but in an affluent suburb less than 40 miles from the capital.

Laura Ingraham interviewed National Black Chamber of Commerce CEO Harry Alford this morning on her radio show and it was an amazing interview. In one of the most honest answers I’ve ever heard to the question of ‘why did you vote for Obama’, Alford said he voted for Obama because he was black and that it was the worst mistake of his life and a lesson he’ll take to his grave. Wow! He added that ‘hope’ was part of the reason he voted for Obama, but then referring to Obama’s policies he said what I think would be a great campaign slogan:

Hope isn’t hiring. Hope isn’t lowering the price of gasoline.

So, when are Obama supporters going to play the race card on this guy. We know they love to drop those cards when there is any criticism of Obama. Will they notice that he admits he only voted for Obama because of his skin color? (cuz that's not racist, huh?)

One of the most ridiculous race cards I have seen (and there have been A LOT of ridiculous race cards) is this one:

Trump blew hard on the dogwhistle, saying that Obama should “get off the basketball court,” and later called Confederate rebels “wonderful,” “beautiful,” “romantic,” and “great.”

Speaking about the recent sharp rise in oil prices, Trump said “(Obama) said ‘There’s no control over prices,’ which he does if he gets on the phone, or gets off his basketball court.”

Seconds later, speaking about his suspicions that the Libyan rebels are controlled by Iran and al Qaeda, Trump said, “We make them sound like they’re out of Gone With the Wind, they’re wonderful, the beautiful rebels, it’s so romantic, they’re great.”

On its own, the basketball thing might be a reach, but in context with other attacks on Obama’s love of the game, along with the fact that he apparently spends much more time on the golf course, it’s difficult to dismiss.

What makes it impossible to dismiss, though, is Trump’s accompanying praise for Confederate “rebels” as “Wonderful,” “beautiful,” “romantic,” and “great.” Trump is either more Clueless than an Alicia Silverstone/Amy Heckerling film retrospective, or he’s blowing harder on that dogwhistle than the Buffalo Bills blow in the Super Bowl.

So, mentioning Obama's favorite pastime is racist...? And no where was Trump *praising* Confederate Rebels. Well, it's not the first time people have lied in order to play the race card.

And this is another PERFECT example about how ridiculous it has become:

They both had themselves a laugh at that. How dumb Bush is! They've been saying that for ten years, of course.

Then, next segment, still marveling that only a racist could question a president's academic ability, he said, quote, "They would never say this about a white president!!!"

Um? Didn't you? Like five minutes ago?

Didn't you? For ten years straight?

And then, in case you completely forgot about the last ten years, I repeat: Didn't you just five minutes ago?

On Feb. 28, 2008, Carl Hulse wrote a New York Times article, “McCain’s Canal Zone Birth Prompts Queries About Whether That Rules Him Out.”

“To date, no American to take the presidential oath has had an official birthplace outside the 50 states,” Hulse wrote.

Picking up on the Times piece, MSNBC.com ran a feature on the same day posing the question, “Born in the USA?”

The Wall Street Journal the same day published a Law Blog column asking: “Does John McCain Have a Birthplace Problem?”

CBS News speculated McCain’s eligibility question “could conceivably end up in before the Supreme Court,” adding the comment, “And you thought counting chads was a circus.”

The next day, the Times of London published a similar piece, “McCain’s Panama birth prompts eligibility probe by his campaign.”

NBC correspondent Pete Williams also published a piece Feb. 29, 2008, on the MSNBC website, “McCain’s citizenship called into question.”

Bush, McCain and Palin, and more have been challenged on their academic achievements repeatedly.

To be fair, this is not the first time that opponents of a president or a presidential candidate demanded to see the academic credentials of the candidate or president at the time. Interesting enough though, in recent history, never were the records readily released by the candidate, without first being leaked or revealed by a news organization. And each time, the leak revealed mediocre grades:

George Bush never released his grades but leaked transcripts that showed he was a solid C student at Yale college (where his father attended) yet managed to get admitted to Harvard Business School.

Sarah Palin, former Republican Vice Presidential nominee (and possible 2012 presidential candidate), according to an Associated Press report, switched colleges six times in six years, including two stints at the University of Idaho, before graduating there in 1987.

John Kerry’s leaked records obtained by The Boston Globe, showed he was a C student at Yale.

Al Gore was also a C student at Harvard, according to a Politics Insider report
Ronald Reagan’s academic transcripts have never been released, though we know he was a student actor, cheerleader and graduated from the non-Ivy League Eureka College

John McCain finished 894 out of 899 at the naval academy, according to the Daily Paul.

That George Bush got into the very competitive Harvard business program with a C-average perhaps shows that his pedigree and family connections got him admitted, notwithstanding his grades. Arguably, this type of legacy admission could be considered a form of Affirmative Action, and one which many children from affluent families annually benefit.

Monkey, Witch Doctor, Joker, Hitler... Has anyone made a movie like this about Obama? Has anyone demanded he prove his children are actually his? Has the main stream media examined Obama's selective service records?

Obama is not the first President who has ever had his vacation days criticized, or been questioned about the size of his entourage, or been questioned about the amount of money he is spending. And Michelle Obama is not the first FLOTUS to receive criticism for her initiatives, spending, verbal gaffes, or have her wardrobe or person mocked. And Conservatives are far from being the only ones who have made some rather eyebrow raising comments.

In addition to McCain being challenged (before Obama was) about his eligibility, forced to prove he was legal to serve, and there were lawsuits filed questioning his eligibility because he was born in the Panama Canal, he was forced to release his medical records, military records, and admitted to his less than stellar academic record.

They can't defend the job Obama is doing, or his record, so they just keep resorting to that ol' race card.

Haven't they run out of cards, yet?

If there is one left, I would like to play it, and lay it on anyone that believes Obama is above criticism, or being held to the same standard, ridicule, examination and mockery of past presidents (or candidates) because of his skin color.

At the same time she was actually making Katz's point for if the same kind of attacks were being lodged against a white president, they can't stem from racism:

Exactly, and all those conflating the issues with accusations of racism are allowing the White House and the Democrats to avoid any kind of serious discussion about the problems facing the nation.

Let's hope the term "Racer" catches on, for it indeed represents a sizable percentage of America's media that for over four years have aided and abetted Obama in avoiding any criticism whatsoever as a result of the color of his skin.

Donald Trump has been making the rounds, as you most likely know, calling for Obama to show his birth certificate. One of the things he finds strange is that Obama seems to not have any childhood friends, that no one remembers Obama, growing up.

“He grew up and nobody knew him. You know? When you interview people, if ever I got the nomination, if I ever decide to run, you may go back and interview people from my kindergarten. They’ll remember me. Nobody ever comes forward. Nobody knows who he his until later in his life. It’s very strange. The whole thing is very strange.”

Well, the good news is, Obama does have at least one childhood friend from his high school days in Hawaii.

The bad new? He was just arrested in a prostitution sting.

HONOLULU -- One of President Obama's close friends from his native Hawaii is facing charges after being arrested during a prostitution sting in the state.

Robert Richard Titcomb, 49, allegedly solicited sex from an undercover police officer posing as a prostitute, Hawaii News Now reports. Titcomb was one of four arrested during the sting, Hawaii Police Department says.

Titcomb was released on $500 bail and will appear in court next month.

Obama and Titcomb have been close friends since high school, and the pair often get together to golf and dine when Obama vacations in the state, Hawaii News Now reports.

The first family attended a barbecue at Titcomb's Waialua home on Oahu's North Shore in December, KITV reported.

Remember him? He's the guy Democrats went to various lengths to try to "defend" against FOX News and their "mission" to play the *the scary black man thing*. To "create a creeping Black Menace, and conflate it with Barack Obama’s America". "All of this makes the NBPP a perfect bogeyman for those who would try to stoke fear of a black President in mainstream Americans, a tactic that has been tried before, and failed. "

He's the guy that ordered that Black Panthers to stand in front of polling places. FOX covered the story, in-depth, because of the case’s dismissal by the Justice Department. "It really started when Megyn Kelly interviewed a DOJ whistleblower J. Christian Adams who had alleged that, among other things, the DOJ has a policy of not pursuing cases if the defendant is black and victim is white." Which is where the Democrats jumped in to defend Malik Shabazz (the guy who praised bin Laden), in order to defend the Obama administration.

I asked Tommy Christopher if he was going to do a story on this video, knowing he interviewed Shabazz during the DOJ story.

"I took a look at the video on a few sites, but I don’t know what the news value of this clip is. I would definitely interview Shabazz again, if I got the chance, but there’s nothing really new in that clip."

"Pimp costumes are racist" is newsworthy, but I guess "Obama is the “n*gger police chief" and "Obama wanted to be the white man's n*gger" isn't. It's funny what gets covered, and what doesn't.

So, I wonder how Democrats feel about Shabazz now? (did they finally get to the bottom of the race card deck?)

Ferraro, who was born in Newburgh, New York, passed away today at Massachusetts General Hospital, surrounded by her loved ones, a statement from her family read.

The cause of death was complications from multiple myeloma, a blood cancer that she had battled for twelve years, her family said.

Exhibit A: Muddled Graphics

Did Fox News Misidentify A Japanese Nightclub As A Nuclear Power Plant?

The map had an error: Shibuyaeggman is not the site of a nuclear plant. It’s a mangled combination of a Tokyo neighborhood and a night club. The reaction on the interwebs was nearly instantaneous. In the space of less than 24 hours this map turned up on hundreds of websites. Here are a few of the more prominent ones:

Who are they hiring over there? No wonder people who watch Fox News have no idea what is going on in the real world.

Like most Republicans, the Fox News crew is so evil that sometimes one forgets that they're also extremely stupid.

You're not paying attention. Unlike CNN, Fox doesn't employ reporters or professional researchers, and it shows. It shows during any 5 minutes of broadcasting.

That was a whole lotta FOX bashing just because of a minor error on a screen graphic. I suppose though, should something similar happen at say, MSNBC or CNN, the liberal media and blogs would be all over it, right?

J$: Funny that they should mention CNN. Yesterday, during American Morning, CNN displayed a map...not of Japan, but of an exotic location known as California. And their map just happened to get the locations of two cities wrong--San Francisco and Los Angeles!

It is now well past 24 hours since CNN’s gaffe. That’s more than enough time for this to have percolated all over the interwebs. Yet for some reason, there aren’t hundreds of websites trumpeting this embarrassment. HuffPo, Gawker, Mediaite, Science Blogs, and Business Insider? Oddly, none of them has posted an article about it. That’s quite a coverage gap! A cosmic coincidence? Not exactly.

Exhibit B: Reporting on violence

OK, let's talk about the media coverage of political *violence*. We know how the Left just loves to paint the Right as a bunch of dangerous, hateful, violent extremists. They even went so far as to blame Conservatives for the Gabby Giffords shooting, and many other acts of violence, many that were actually committed by Leftists and some that didn't even happen (spit-gate) at all. And when it happens on the Left? Do we hear a peep?

Well, someone is finally calling out the Liberal media:

Do you scoff at the right wing notion that mainstream media like the New York Times, the TV networks and NPR have a liberal media bias against the conservatives?
If you answered 'yes' to all three of those questions, then let me ask you one more...

Why isn't the mainstream media talking about the death threats against Republican politicians in Wisconsin?

Try to set aside whatever biases or preconceptions you might have for a moment and ask yourself why death threats against politicians aren't considered national news, especially in the wake of the all too fresh shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and other bystanders. And there hasn't just been one death threat, but a number of them.

If you read liberal blogs, you might have heard of some of these threats. Indirectly, anyway. Sarah Palin said the rhetoric should be toned down. The threats themselves were ignored and Palin was mocked.

On the other hand, if you read conservative blogs or listen to conservative media, you know all about these threats because people like Bill O'Reilly and Rush Limbaugh and websites like Newsbusters and BigJournalism have not only been talking about the death threats for days now but they've been talking about the mainstream and liberal media ignoring the threats for days.

Ignoring the story of these threats is deeply, fundamentally wrong. It's bad, biased journalism that will lead to no possible good outcome and progressives should be leading the charge against it.

Just before writing this article, I did a Google search and it's stunning to find out that the right wing media really isn't exaggerating -- proven death threats against politicians are being ignored by the supposedly honest media. If you've never agreed with a single thing that Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly et al have said about anything, you can't in any good conscience say that they don't have a point here. Death threats are wrong and if a story like Wisconsin is national news for days, then so are death threats.

That tone of extreme hostility I experienced brings me back to the death threats in Wisconsin. Frankly, the bile and invective in that threat reminded me of the tone I saw directed at me from many so-called liberals because I committed the heresy of taking a different position from them on the issue of collective bargaining for public sector employees... based on something FDR said.

Is this really what liberalism has come to in 2011?

Since working with Breitbart, my position on political issues hasn't changed but I'd be lying if I didn't say I'm deeply disappointed by the virulent, lockstep attitude I see on the left. My experience in the last few months tells me what I would not have believed possible; on any number of issues (including Pigford, by the way) I've seen liberals act much nastier and with less factual honesty than the conservatives... and this includes on issues where I disagree with conservatives.

Burying the death threat story is a clear example of intellectual dishonesty and journalistic bias.

Yes. Which is exactly the reason why I bailed on the Democratic party. Most Hillary supporters were subjected to that nastiness three years ago, by Obama supporters, and they just keep getting more and more rabid. And it is why I have moved further and further to the Right.

For the third straight year, Obama has filled out an NCAA tournament bracket for ESPN.com senior college basketball writer Andy Katz. The president says Duke, Kansas, Ohio State and Pittsburgh will make the men's Final Four, the matchups being Duke vs. Ohio State and Kansas vs. Pitt.

Heck, the Obama administration can't even be bothered to inform the public on what is happening in Japan:

If the Obama White House doesn't want to be criticized for "petty" things like the NCAA picks, or vacations, perhaps the only news he generates shouldn't be about parties, NCAA picks, fundraising and vacations.

On NBC’s TODAY this morning, Ann Curry had a happy story to share amid the widespread misery in Japan: an early-morning tweet from a family in the U.S. led Curry to find a family member unaccounted for in one of the country’s hardest-hit areas. Equipped with a photo of the missing relative, a schoolteacher, Curry searched–and found her.

The missing teacher, Canon Purdy, had just returned to Japan on the day of the earthquake–returning to the village of Minamisanriku, which was largely washed away by the tsunami.

Gov. Scott Walker on Monday afternoon responded to comments President Barack Obama made earlier in the day about the protests in Madison:

"I'm sure the President knows that most federal employees do not have collective bargaining for wages and benefits while our plan allows it for base pay. And I'm sure the President knows that the average federal worker pays twice as much for health insurance as what we are asking for in Wisconsin. At least I would hope he knows these facts.

"Furthermore, I'm sure the President knows that we have repeatedly praised the more than 300,000 government workers who come to work every day in Wisconsin.

"I'm sure that President Obama simply misunderstands the issues in Wisconsin, and isn't acting like the union bosses in saying one thing and doing another."

By far, the most important speech at CPAC was delivered by two-term Gov. Mitch Daniels of Indiana at Friday night's banquet. It was an eloquently crafted, intellectually compelling call to arms against the red-ink forces of the national debt. Daniels, who was George W. Bush's budget director, proposed dramatically revamping Social Security and Medicare as he called for "an affectionate thank you to the major social welfare programs of the last century."

What was most striking about Daniels' speech, which inspired careful listening rather than pep-rally applause, was that it treated his CPAC audience as adults rather than as just another constituency group demanding pandering. Whether it was dismissing the easy-answer attacks on earmarks ("in the cause of national solvency, they are a trifle") or suggesting that most voters do not appreciate the sharp-edged rhetoric of the Republican right ("it would help if they liked us, just a bit"), Daniels' speech was an exercise in speaking truth to conservatives who have the power to derail a presidential candidacy.

Privacy-mongers, rejoice! The Transportation Security Administration, having been hammered by the public for their use of body imaging, is field testing a new technology that will hopefully keep your unmentionables where they belong: out of sight, and out of the hands of strangers.

The software, called Automatic Target Recognition, or ATR, displays only a generic stick-figure image, rather than the actual outline of the traveler being screened. And instead of a security officer in another room looking at the image — a step TSA took before to make sure no one was feeling ogled — the passenger can check out the cartoonish abstraction alongside the security officer at the checkpoint.

President Barack Obama says he didn't raise taxes once.

In an interview on Super Bowl Sunday, Fox News host Bill O'Reilly asked President Barack Obama to react to a Wall Street Journal editorial that accused Obama of being "a determined man of the left whose goal is to redistribute much larger levels of income across society."

"Do you deny that you are a man who wants to redistribute wealth?" O'Reilly asked.

Obama first noted the conservatism of the Wall Street Journal's editorial page, then denied the charge "absolutely."

"I didn't raise taxes once. I lowered taxes over the last two years," Obama said.

We wanted to fact-check that statement, and we'll begin by saying Obama boils down an awful lot of complexity about federal tax policy into a short sound bite.

Looking at the whole statement, he's both right and wrong. For clarity's sake, we're going to take Obama's statement in two parts. Here, we'll look at his statement, "I didn't raise taxes once." In a separate report, we'll look at his statement, "I lowered taxes over the last two years."

The idea that Obama did not raise taxes is just plain wrong.

If Obamacare is so great, why are so many seeking, and granted, waivers?

The nation’s capital is freaking out over a winter snowstorm.
But everyone else should be up in arms over the real snow job in Washington this week.

While the Democrats continued to extol Obamacare and the president defended the behemoth law during the Date of the Union, HHS was quietly presiding over a massive Obamacare Waiver-mania explosion.

When last we examined the growing list, privileged escapees topped 222.
Now: The list now at 729 — plus 4 states (Massachusetts, New Jersey, Ohio, and Tennessee).

Big hat tip to John Sexton in the Hot Air Green Room, who reports the rather curious delays in HHS’s posting of the new updates:
Last year, the HHS website was very efficient posting a list of ObamaCare waivers that had been granted. Ususally by the 3rd of the month the list was updated to included waivers that had been approved in the previous month. But something happened in January. Two weeks into the month no new waivers had been posted.

I was curious what caused the delay so I made some calls. Last Tuesday I spoke by phone with a media relations employees of HHS. She was not allowed to speak on the record, but after checking with folks at OCIIO who handle the ObamaCare waivers, she was able to inform me in a “not for attribution” way that the latest batch of waivers had in fact been processed. There was no specific hold-up that she could identify, they were simply running behind in getting the information on the website.

Well today, the day after the President’s State of the Union, the new waivers are up. You may recall that there were 222 such waivers approved in November. That number has now jumped to 729 through the end of December. The total number of people covered by the waivers has gone from 1.5M to just under 2.2M. The list includes the usual assortment of union locals and businesses.

I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch to suggest that OCIIO was asked to hold this development until after the SOTU. Indeed the latest waiver approved in the list is from December 30th. There is an addendum at the bottom of the page noting that four states–Massachusetts, New Jersey, Ohio, and Tennessee–have applied for waivers covering another 93,000 people. The addendum is dated 1/21/11, but I can assure you it was not there on 1/21 or even Monday…

Spreading hate is what Democrats are accusing Republicans of doing, but is exactly what they are doing themselves.

Before the suspect in the shooting in Arizona had been identified, many on the Left began pointing fingers and accusing Conservatives, Tea Partiers and Republicans of murder. (Although, after the Fort Hood shooting, those same people urged the public to not jump to conclusions.)
However, after the shooting of someone who happens to be a Democrat, Sarah Palin and Conservatives are blamed for mass murder commited by a lone shooter - a shooter that no one knew anything about.

If that's not inciting and spreading hate, I don't know what is.

Why blame Sarah Palin? Apparently, the answer is, why not?

Those on the Left, apparently, feel that this map, one I blogged about last March, is responsible for the deaths of six innocent victims.

No one bothered to mention that Democrats ran almost identical political maps to Palin's, the latter from the DCCC in 2009. Interesting...I wonder why?

Markos Moulitsas from the Daily Kos actually had the GALL to tweet “Mission Accomplished, Sarah Palin” after the incident because of her Target map.

So, when did Markos decide to scrub this target list from his web site? Before or after he tweeted, accusing Sarah Palin of causing mass murder?

And how about this article from Daily Kos? It was scrubbed, too.

This rush by Olbermann, Shultz, MSNBC, the sheriff in Arizona, CNN, Krugman, NBC, and many, many others was irresponsible, inflammatory and hateful. Plain and simple. No one thinks this puts a target on Palin, and other conservatives?

All of this hateful finger pointing is especially rich when there is nothing, NOTHING, to support their claims that this attack was caused by the political rhetoric of the Right, or that the shooter was a *right winger*.

Loughner's classmates said he was a left winger, at least in 2007. Loughner seems to have been obsessed with Gabby Griffords, keeping a letter she sent him in 2007, thanking him for attending her event. He was showing increasing signs of instability, worrying and scaring classmates and professors. "He wasn't especially political, Mr. Marriotti said, though he expressed frustration with the Bush Administration."

He believed the U.S. government was behind 9/11, and worried that governments were maneuvering to create a unified monetary system (“a New World Order currency” one friend said) so that social elites and bureaucrats could control the rest of the world.
On his YouTube page, he listed among his favorite books “Animal Farm” and “Brave New World” — two novels about how authorities control the masses. Other books in the wide-ranging list included “Mein Kampf,” ”The Communist Manifesto,” ”Peter Pan” and Aesop’s Fables.

Loughner registered to vote on Sept. 29, 2006, identifying himself as an independent.

Seriously, just WHO the HELL are *they* to self righteously point fingers and accuse the *right* of murder, much less of spewing hate?

Instead of mourning the loss of those who died in the shooting, the Left chose to attack and accuse people on the right of murder. Without a shred of evidence, or proof. They need to think about that one, for a good long while. Who exactly are the ones spreading and spewing hateful bile?

Liberals don't want Rap music, video games or violent movies restricted or censored, blamed for encouraging or inciting violence, or to be held accountable or linked to violent crimes or behavior (even songs that glorify cop killing, misogyny, rape, murder). Yet somehow, Sarah Palin is responsible for mass murder because of a political map used by Democrats and Republicans alike?
Un-frickin-believable.

I would have SO much more to add to this if I were at home, on my own computer. This is just beyond the pale.

My thoughts go out to the families of all those involved. Especially the little girl, Christina-Taylor Green, who was born on 9/11/01.

PERUGIA, Italy — Amanda Knox won an important victory in her appeals trial of her murder conviction in Italy on Saturday, when a court ruled that it will allow an independent review of crucial DNA evidence.

The lower court trial, which convicted the American student last year and sentenced her to 26 years in Italian prison, had rejected a similar defense request for an outside review of DNA found on the victim's bra clasp and on a knife the prosecution alleged was used to stab Meredith Kercher.

Prosecutors maintain that Sollecito's DNA was found on the bra clasp and that Knox's DNA was found on the knife. The defense maintains that DNA traces presented at the first trial were inconclusive and also contends they might have been contaminated when they were analyzed.
Knox's mother, Edda Mellas, burst into tears of joy in the courtroom in the university town of Perugia when the appeals court announced its decision. "Finally a little bit of good news," Mellas said, as Knox's family members hugged defense team lawyers.

The court selected two experts from Rome's Sapienza University to review the evidence. The experts will be formally given the task at the trial's next session on Jan. 15.

The request for the review was the first significant test for Knox's defense. A rejection could have dealt a severe blow to their hopes of overturning the conviction.

This is really good news for the defense.

soups, pies and pizza rolls

I updated my craft blog roll this week, finding all kinds of new fabulous cooking and crafty sites. People are so talented - it always just amazes me! Just look at this gorgeousness!

I've been in the mood to try some new recipes this week, and thought I would share.

The first recipe was for Creamy Chicken and Wild Rice Soup from Tidymom.net.

As usual, I have to improvise when it comes to ingredients. I couldn't find any boxes of quick cooking long grain and wild rice with seasoning packet, so I bought long grain white rice, and a mix of Riso, Avena e Kamut. I cooked it separately, and tossed a little into the soup near the end. (The long grain white rice I added per the recipe). I also improved with the season packet, thanks to this site. The soup was very good. My husband and I both agreed that it could do with half the amount of heavy cream. Next time I will only add 200ml of cream. But it was very hearty, flavorful and tasty.

Next, I made Tidymom's Homemade Pizza Rolls. Sorry, you have to visit her site for a photo...I didn't take any of my pizza rolls. They didn't last long enough. What I did differently: I added a thin layer of polpa di pomodori and added prosciutto cotto cubetti instead of pepperoni. I didn't have pepperoni on hand. I also used pizza mozzarella instead of the cheeses in the recipe. This was a simple, fun recipe to try, and would be good for parties or kids!

The last recipe I made is your basic Jello pudding and Cool Whip pie - without Jello or Cool Whip because we don't have Jello or Cool Whip in Italy.

I used Elah budino cioccolato 30 secondi and Paneangeli Dolceneve and a gram cracker crust (my mom sent the crumbs to me, but you could use cookie, crushed up). I wanted to make it seasonal, so I added peppermint flavoring to the Dolceneve when it was almost ready. I added to taste. It would be perfect if I had candy cane ships to sprinkle on top! But, considering I don't have Cool Whip here, it turned out pretty darn good. I've been here 8 years and never knew that stuff whipped up like Cool Whip.

Seriously, what was the thinking here? This has to be one of the worst PR moves in the entirety of the administration. Obviously, Clinton is probably a more popular Democratic figure right now, but they had to imagine this would hurt Obama. I mean, letting a former president explain your tax bill while you head to a Christmas party? A Christmas party?

This isn't the first time Obama made a bad PR move.

“This gentleman right here — he’s got his hand up,” Obama said. “He’s the only one who took me up on it. Go ahead. And I’ll probably need a translation, though, if you’re asking the question in Korean. In fact, I definitely will need a translation.”

“Unfortunately, I hate to disappoint you, President Obama, I’m actually Chinese,” the reporter said.

“All right, thank you very much, everybody,” Obama said after giving a concise answer. “I’m late for my flight.

Late for his flight? You mean Air Force One would leave without him?

Mr. Obama concluded his remarks at about 7:30, saying he couldn’t stay for dinner.

“I’ve got to go home to tuck in the girls and walk the dog and scoop the poop,” he said.

How many people here believe he had to walk the dog, and scoop the poop?

The bells that we hear, every day. And when I say we hear them, I mean we HEAR them. Try sleeping with that in the summer, when the windows are open....

Our neighbor is the reporter, talking about the 500th Anniversary celebration of the Madonna della Gamba, seen below. It is a Sanctuary for the Miracle of the Madonna that 500 years ago appeared and healed a little girl's leg...

This is the parade, they celebrate every year, but only bring out the statue every 25 years. We have front row seats!

This is the ride on the funivia from Selvino to Albino. From Selvino, you can go even higher, on a two person funivia, and there is a yummy restaurant at the top. This is the video for the Opening of the new funivia.

If we don't take the funivia to Selvino, we have to drive on this road. My mom doesn't like this road. Here is another view, you can see how windy it is. My husband, before I moved to Italy, crashed and totaled his car at the 2:47 mark. Something tells me he was trying to copy the rally cars in his new sports car... He's lucky he only totaled the car.

This is a news report about the Albino Shopping festival. We went, of course. The stores stay open late, set up booths outside, and there is all kinds of activity, food, wine, music, etc. These are scenes from around town, before the festival. My favorite bread shop - Il Fornaio, at 2:29 in the video, you can see it.. In Seattle when you see the sign at Il Fornaio, it lists Albino.

mmm....soup!

It was snowing yesterday, and I was in the mood for some savory soup. I thought about making my standby buonissimo pasta e fagioli, but decided to try something new. If you're not familiar with my cooking style, I like easy, easy, easy and delicious. I also tend to like things that I can make, add in that I already have on hand. Yesterday I came up with my new soup:

mine didn't stick around long enough for a photo)

Easy Peasy Chicken Chili
Makes about 4-6 servings, depending on your bowl size.

Chicken breast (I used about four slices of breast)
1 Chicken bouillon or 5 cups Chicken broth
1 can Cannellini Beans
Small pasta (I used Barilla Ditalini Rigati, but any small pasta will work)
A few baby carrots or corn
1 small onion
Casa Fiesta Mexican Spices Mix (I don't see this on their web site, I bought it in Italy. It is your basic mix of Mexican spices)
a couple of little red dry peppers
salt and pepper
parmigiano cheese (or jack)

Cut up raw chicken into little cubes and sauté in a deep soup pot, with a dollop or two of olive oil.
When chicken is cooked, add in diced onion and sliced baby carrots (you could use corn, but I didn't, but I bet that would be good). (add a touch of olive oil if it needs it) Cook until onion is nice and soft and golden - about five or 10 minutes.
Add five cups water and bouillon OR five cuts chicken broth.
Add (drained) can of beans.
Add about 1 teaspoon to 1 tblsp of Mexican seasoning. Season to your taste.
Same with salt and pepper.
Add chopped up little red peppers. I added two, and my soup was spicy! Adjust to your liking. (if you break them up with your fingers remember to wash your hands and do not touch your eyes!)
Let boil (medium boil) for about 10 minutes. Taste and adjust. Let boil longer if you want, or if you are ready to eat, give it a taste...need anything else, salt? Pepper?
Add pasta (I added about three small handfuls), and boil for required time. My pasta was nine minutes.
I served it in some clay bowls, and topped it off with grated parmigiano.

So easy, but it was SO tasty. You can also deck this out with sour cream, or tortilla chips, or whatever, but it was de-lish just as it is...at least we thought so! haha You can add more chicken, more beans, or more pasta, and even more broth to make more, or to make it more hearty.

Another soup I made a few weeks ago, that was super tasty, was this Outrageous Garlic Soup. I didn't add all the garlic it calls for, and it was still plenty garlicky. I think I shorted it by a few cloves. I really love the idea of adding in the bread for a short cut to béchamel. I also used my immersion blender instead of a blender. Immersion blenders are a must for soup making!
