Beck's rally was not about hate, Beck didn't force anyone to come, and they didn't bus in union members, organized by 400 different groups. Beck's rally was bigger, and cleaner. Anyway, here is a round up of some pics and vids from the day.
Beck's 8/28 Rally:
One Nation Rally:
Be sure to check out this site for tons of pics. Excellent coverage.
I don't know why Beck took a lot of heat for saying there would be socialists there...

Say what?
Great twitter thread with lots of pics. More pics here. And here.
Scenes from One Nation rally here.
Some of the funnier Tweets I saw:
At one nation rally. Only paid union members here! Im amazed….almost every person has a union shirt on.
@pinkelephantpun They just told us Capitalism is dead. Meanwhile, they’re selling $10 smoothies on the other side of the Memorial.
@pinkelephantpun http://yfrog.com/5bfzsmzj this is a solid 6 blocks from the rally. Piles of signs. Putting stuff in trashbags is hard
@KayDubzHU: No bitch ass teabag can ruin my mood right now! #onenation This rally is about unity, hope, respect.
@Rictracee #OneNation IS ABOUT HOPE OVER HATE… AND TOGETHERNESS OVER DIVISION… JOBS OVER OUTSOURCING.. so sit down you TEABAGGER TARDS!
@michaelpfreeman Ed Schultz, who gets his paychecks from GE, tells people to “stand up to the corporations.” #onenation
@GottaLaff #onenation Civil rights. Beck rally: Corporate rights
Best tweet of the day: @radishthegreat: If they put as much effort into working as they do demanding other people’s money, they could be the “rich” they hate
Unions pics here, here, here. This guy has got to be a Beck fan.
Nothing says *unity* like a good dose of nasty rhetoric from one of the nastiest voices out there:
The conservative voices of America, they are holding you down," said Schultz. "They don't believe in your freedom. They want the concentration of wealth. They've shipped your job overseas...They suppress your vote. They talk about the Constitution, but they don't want to live by it. They talk about our forefathers, but they want discrimination"Or this:
Abraham Lincoln knew the evil of slavery and in abolishing that evil saved America. Although slavery may have been abolished, crippling poison, racism, still persists. And the struggle still continues… Perhaps the greatest threat of all is the undermining of our Constitution and the systematic attacks against the inalienable rights of the citizens of this nation. Rights that are guaranteed by our Constitution. At the vanguard of this insidious attack is the Tea Party. This band of misguided citizens is moving perilously close to achieving villainous ends. How patriotic were they? "Unconfirmed, but this shot is reported to capture the Ed Schultzians mostly ignoring the Pledge of Allegiance."
I'd say since there are three people doing the pledge, it's a safe bet this was taken during the pledge of allegiance. More pics here.
The folks didn't seem to stick around until the end, either. It cleared out fairly early.
And how did they leave DC?
After Beck's rally:
After Obama's inauguration:
Who really cares about the environment? Or is it that these slobs are just trying to create jobs for trash collectors?
Anyhoo, it looks like a good time was had by all....

So, how did Big Ed do?
FAIL.

Memeorandum has more.
UPDATE: Good thing this rally wasn't about Glenn Beck...
Geez, obsess much?
Now comes the MSM dilemma: How do they report a large turnout number for the One Nation rally, but not credit Beck's rally with a huge turnout? Remember, CBS called the number at Beck's rally at 85,000. The media seems to be giving the One Nation rally 175,000. But, they are admitting there were more people at Beck's rally. How does that work?
Holy moly, it's a banner day in traffic! Thanks to Treacher, Don Surber, Alexandra F, Memeorandum, Left Coast Rebel, and all the twitter peeps who keep tweeting. Check out Nice Deb's roundup, too! Death by 1000 paper cuts! Jim Lago at KKTX! Protein Wisdom and Althouse readers! Welcome!

ReplyDeletePlease try and credit the source of pictures. I'm flattered one made it in your post!
ReplyDeleteI tried to post links to all sources. If I missed one of yours, please tell me and I will add the link!
ReplyDeleteBest tweet of the day? Thank you :)
ReplyDeleteI don't really have anything else to say. !#$%^&*! moochers drive me nuts.
at glenn beck rally ,I saw those toothless slack jawed racist white frothing at the mouths angry white people on television. No way did they pick up all of that litter. Those dirty old uneducated littering fools. They are not intelligent enough to know that they should clean up after themselves. This is a conspiracy.
ReplyDeleteHoly moly, this is an awesome post! Linking!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! "@radishthegreat: If they put as much effort into working as they do demanding other people’s money, they could be the “rich” they hate" Superb comment!!
ReplyDeletecrazy people look for the real pictures at blue america
ReplyDeleteThe photo of the Pledge is accurate. I was at the Lincoln Memorial, near where the photographer took the pic. During the Pledge, I noticed many chatting or simply staring off into space, or checking their mobiles; few, if any, held their hand over their heart. I would have taken video, but I was reciting the Pledge.
ReplyDeleteGreat roundup!
ReplyDeleteAnd BTW, your heart graphic, half pepperoni and half apple pie is one of the best, too!
Thank you, all for commenting. :O)
ReplyDeleteThanks Tania for the first hand report, too!
Steve, I made that little graphic - I was so proud of it! hehe Thanks for noticing it!
You missed the most obvious explanation of the "count" difference... which was tipped off when there were such distinct color differences between the two photos...
ReplyDeleteThe people that were bussed in and handed t-shirts were all handed green t-shirts.
Camouflage, duh!
In the middle of the lawn, and amongst the trees.
All green stuff.
Glad that is clear now.
Next time you guys can invent a real reason rather than relying on that "forced bussing" stuff which is such a 1960s Mad Men type of excuse...
Jacques - I read some comment somewhere (I forget where now, I read so much about this) where an African American person said the reason it looked smaller is because black people don't like to get tan like white people, and therefore they were all hiding under the trees.
ReplyDeleteSomeone replied and said that a lot of white people try to stay out of the sun because they burn, and there were lots under the trees too. Then they linked to this photo:

hahaha
Having lived in the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) as a young man, I'm convinced that the one key feature of maintaining a firm and committed belief in Socialism is to have never had any contact with it, lived in it, or visited a society where there was (as they used to say,) "real, living Socialism".
ReplyDeleteThese people never seem to ask themselves just why it is that it's the preferred ideology of authoritarians and mass murderers: because it's structured to give the state enormous unchecked power, and is assumed to make a population docile and servile - offering no resistance.
The 85K appearing more than 175K is simple to explain, even without the dermatologist's protective health suggestions: The 85,000 Tea Partiers are good for nothing, lazy, sit-around all day kinda' folk that came early, sat long, and left late (everyone has an uncle or cousin like that at the family reunions...).
ReplyDeleteThe 175,000 Unity Partiers are kind, sharing folk, that took turns so that everyone got a chance to see up close and personal the stage area, rotating in and out for shorter stays (being Unity Partiers many also had other obligations, like working down at the soup kitchen, visiting the residents at the local retirement home, attending a barn raising for their neighbors in need, tutoring reading to inner city youngsters, etc.), so there were never much more than 35-40K at a time, making the crowd look much more compact and concentrated (and more serious, of course).
And many of those stayed out of the sun under the trees too.
The Beck "rally" was all about---Beck. People at the Beck event were bussed in, riding on public roads (socialism, maybe?)and paid for by corporate sponsors, including the Koch brothers, and Rupert Murdoch, who through his personal TV network, FUX Views provided day-long propaganda for the Beck event. The Beck event WAS about love--for Glenn Beck. Many others at the Mall were merely unrelated tourists who were there to enjoy the Washington Mall and many of its fine museums and public sites that tea party types think should not be functions of our government.
ReplyDeleteThe crowds at last week's progressive rally were diverse and made up of people who work for a living and join unions willingly. They were of all races and nationalities. The Beck mob was almost exclusively white. Supposedly they were there partly to honor Martin Luther King, but apparently this bunch of ignoramuses were unnaware that on the day that King was assassinated he was in town to support unionists.
Tea perty types were given advice as to what parts of Washinton to avoid--the black sections,
where most of the city's best restaurants and attractions are located.
The biggest tragedy is that these tea party types were and are unaware that the GOP goons they are backing are using them to promote corporate greed, environmental polution, like the BP oil spill, eliminate social security and medicare, and make the government incapable of providing compassionate help when needed. If these clowns are such patriots, why not show their support for the USA by donning military uniforms and volunteering to fight in Iraq or Afghanistan, instead of marching around like fools, and dressed like idiots? Hypocrates, all!
Your first paragraph is riddled with so many lies I'm not even going to bother, except to say - of course you played the race card.
ReplyDeleteSecond paragraph - ONE guy ONE LONE blogger provided info for people (mostly old) who don't know the area, but he lives there. He told them what high crime areas to be careful of/avoid. He didn't say anything about those areas being *black* - you and Maddow did. Maybe it's you guys that are racist, pointing out the high crime areas are all black areas? I have been to DC a couple of times - and yes, one wrong turn and you can find your self in some scary ass places. That's the Tea Parties fault?
Third paragraph? Same old tired BS. I have no doubt that a majority of the tea partiers have served, have a son or daughter or mother or father who have served. As you guys (I assuming your from DU) love to point out, a lot of the tea peeps are older - you want granny to go serve? You certainly aren't going to see the anti-American, anti-military signs that are at Lefty gatherings.
It was the liberal media and loons like Sharpton that attacked Beck's rally to begin with. NOTHING he was doing should have bothered ANYONE, but yet the liberal media made it into some big controversy, Ed Schultz ranting and raving he could get more people than Beck, liberal blogs trashing everyone, the media couldn't stop calling it an *all white crowd* blah blah frickin blah!
WTH were they so bothered by? NOTHING! And it made you all look stupid. SO, once this One Nation came up, everyone said they were going to beat beck, the woman interviewing people at the event was OBSESSED with Beck. No one cared who's rally was bigger - but libs sure did! All of them running around screaming they beat beck, they beat beck. And then UH OH> No they didn't. NOW It's all...numbers don't matter! "Tea partiers are obsessed with the crowd comparisons..." UH, yea - only because LIBS ranted and raved about it, claiming they were going to be bigger, and then that they were bigger.
THERE WAS NO REASON FOR ANYONE TO BE BASHING THE BECK RALLY BEFORE OR AFTER. WHO CARES - DID THEY SAY OR DO ANYTHING AT THAT RALLY THAT OFFENDED ANYONE? DID THEY LEAVE A MESS ON THE MALL? DID THEY TRASH ANY LANDMARKS? It wasn't all about Beck, but even IF it was, WHO CARES? If people wanted to go, they went. WHO CARES if it was 90% white? Is that the FAULT of the organization? They didn't send out invites that said, "NO BLACK PEOPLE". There were African Americans, Hispanics, Asians there. Why is no one in the media saying the One Nation Rally was like *dark bread* as they loved to call Beck rally White Bread. One Nation rally was about socialism and government taking care of everyone, and no personal responsibility - tea partiers (which Beck's event wasn't a *tea party*) are about smaller govt, and personal responsibility. MSNBC and CNN and MSM were obsessed with Beck's rally and then did nothing but look like major idiots afterwards. "mostly white, all white, white toast..." gee, is beck to blame for that? Is it any surprise when 97% of African Americans voted for Obama and they are the largest demo that still supports him? Strong, independent, responsible AA's did go to Becks rally, and are tea partiers.
Those who are still waiting for Obama to pay their mortgage and fill their gas tanks were at one nation. (or those who were required to go for their union)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P36x8rTb3jI
and dressed like idiots - You really want to go there?
The biggest tragedy is that liberals are unaware that Democrats have been imposing policies that have kept poor people poor, and dependent on the government for generations, using them for their votes and to promote their own greed, and line their own pockets, and stifling those who actually provide the jobs, that would get them out of poverty and independent of the govt. But then they would lose their voting block, wouldn't they...
I just spent a 1/2 hour typing a reply to you, and then blogger said it was too big to process, and I lost it all. Crap!
ReplyDeleteSum it up - your comments are full of BS, and typical. And of COURSE included the race card.
"and dressed like idiots" - you really want to go there?
oh, it posted! phew.
