Despite Obama pandering to win the Conservative Christian African American vote in SC with the trio of gay bigots, headed by Donnie "God delivered me from homosexuality" McClurkin. (God cured him of homosexuality?)
And despite that Obama is against gay marriage, invited Warren to deliver the invocation, never marched in a gay pride parade, refused to be photographed with Newsom because of his stance on same sex marriage, and is dragging his heels on DADT, he was still seen as a *champion* for the gay community.
But now this. The Obama administration is appealing the ruling in DOMA.
Left Reaches New Low: Begging for Inaction

I am truly disgusted.
(Reuters) - The Obama administration decided on Tuesday to appeal a judge's rulings that prevented the U.S. government from banning same-sex marriages.
I know Obama never supported gay marriage, but this is the most cowardly thing conceivable:
"Although Obama opposes the [DOMA] law, a Justice Department spokeswoman said that the administration was defending the statute because it was obligated to defend federal laws when challenged in court. 'As a policy matter, the President has made clear that he believes DOMA is discriminatory and should be repealed,' said Justice Department spokeswoman Tracy Schmaler. 'The Justice Department is defending the statute, as it traditionally does when acts of Congress are challenged.'"
This does it: I've had it with Barack Obama. He may not believe in gay marriage, but doesn't he owe his base something? And think about it: this "something" that I'm asking for - it's actually nothing; all I'm asking him to do here is NOTHING. That's what I've been reduced to: begging for inaction.
I have always accepted Obama's personal stance on gay marriage. I never took issue with his lack of enthusiasm for gay rights. I don't need him to be our champion. But our Scrooge? Now Obama is actively appealing a just civil rights decision, furthermore one that any amateur student of American government knows is explicitly unconstitutional:
"Article IV (The States), Section 1 (Each State to Honor all others): Full Faith and Credit shall be given in each State to the public Acts, Records, and judicial Proceedings of every other State..."
It is nigh impossible to hold these two facts in my head at once: 1) Obama is a former constitutional law professor; and 2) he is "the decider." Perhaps Obama's favorite quote - "the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice" - reveals more about his patience than it does about his drive.
I voted for you, President Obama. I campaigned for you. And now it's my duty to hold your feet to the fire.
Share this if you're disappointed, too.
Well...I hate to say I told you so, but I told you so!

Hey, Douglas, just a reminder: you get what you pay for. You bought Obama, now you own him. Maybe next time, you'll do a little more research into what you're buying before you put your money on the table.
ReplyDeleteAnd, just out of curiosity, Douglas, if "...the administration was defending the statute because it was obligated to defend federal laws...", why is the administration challenging Arizona for following federal laws regarding immigration? Just wondering if you're disappointed in that, too.
I hate to say it, too, Sara....but yep, we all tried to tell you and friends so, Douglas!
