all that, just for accepting a nomination to serve her country.... UPDATED

Lord help the next woman who dares to think she can actually serve in the White House.

UPDATE: Excellent diary from Reclusive Leftist: Feminists and the mystery of Sarah Palin

A snipit:

"But even weirder is what happens when you try to replace the myths with the truth. If you explain, “no, she didn’t charge rape victims,” your feminist interlocutor will come back with something else: “she’s abstinence-only!” No, you say, she’s not; and then the person comes back with, “she’s a creationist!” and so on. “She’s an uneducated moron!” Actually, Sarah Palin is not dumb at all, and based on her interviews and comments, I’d say she has a greater knowledge of evolution, global warming, and the Wisconsin glaciation in Alaska than the average citizen.

But after you’ve had a few of these myth-dispelling conversations, you start to realize that it doesn’t matter. These people don’t hate Palin because of the lies; the lies exist to justify the hate. That’s why they keep reaching and reaching for something else, until they finally get to “she winked on TV!”

  1. Hello Ms. Sara in Italy,
You are, by far, more intelligent and worldly than the other Sarah, I dare say. I've read about you (and her) for a year now...and you come across far more informed and coherent than that other one even if I do disagree with some of your views. I wouldn't dismiss her coverage as some kind of 'hit piece' from the press, I would say she got back what she gave.
    My complete respect for you.

  2. while i appreciate the compliment, what exactly has she done that makes her appear less intelligent? yes, perhaps i have seen more of the world than she has, but i can tell you straight up, there is no way in hell i could have done what she did - from her acceptance speech to her VP debate, and endure all of the personal attacks she and her family endured. no way at all. she gave a couple of interviews, that were edited to provide maxium damage - and if you don't believe me, you need to see the entire interviews. courics was the worst. i also do not think i could have held up as well as she did doing two national interviews, coming from a small town, and having been thrust into the spotlight as she was. obama spent two years (well, actually his wohle career) campaigning, and she had, what? two weeks? he was and still is a gaffe master, but she was ripped apart and labled stupid for two bad interviews?

it is a shame that she was attacked so personally. and every woman should realize that.

i am running out, so this is short! ciao!!!

  3. If we remain silent while one woman is being torn to shreds, simply because we may not agree with her on cerain issues, we give our tacit approval for every woman to be treated that way, each one of us included. Remember the words of Rabbi Hillel:

"If I am not for myself, who is for me? But if I am for my own self only, what am I? And if not now, when?"

Thanks, Sarah In Italy, for standing up for Sarah In Alaska! Every woman should do so, whether we agree with her politics or not. Until women stand together, we will continue to fall apart.

  4. Love reading your blog. I am a Sarah fan and hope this is a move forward in her political career. I'm saddened, but I wish the best for her and her family. I am upset at how women in this country are tearing her apart.

  5. Sara,
Who in their right mind would quit their job in this economic climate? Come on? Who? The question remains, why did she quit now?

You know...my British husband and I are leaving Germany next month. I've been unemployed for 2.5 yrs and he's leaving his job. So we're broke and everyone thinks we're nuts. Why leave now? Because he got his resident spouse Visa and it has a time limit. We have to move now. We have no choice or lose 2,000 dollars it took to get it. He's got an MBA so we'll survive (I hope). We could be risking bankruptcy but the Visa has a rope around our neck. The company won't transfer us and as yet, nobody has hired us.

I know I got off on this tangent but it's a prove my point. We are leaving the country jobless because we have no choice. No one in their right mind quits a job in this recession unless they are pushed against the wall or they are made an offer they can't refuse.

Case in point, Mrs Sarah Palin. Did she quit because she had to? Why or why not, because of the evil media? Come on.

Well, I'm sure we'll find out soon enough, won't we? That's my take and I hope the Best for Mrs. Palin. I'm not ripping into her because she's 'stupid' or not ready for prime time...I'm ripping her because she's not telling the truth. I call a spade a spade. I don't care what 'party' you belong to or what gender you are, generally speaking. Independent forever. Something is fishy here.

    Tootles.

  6. Why would someone, who is in debt from 15 frivolous lawsuits that have been launched against her, and owes upwards of $500K leave her job?

Palin could rake in $7 million from book deal
    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27755392/

Estimates range from a $7-11 million payment to Palin for the memoir. The highly anticipated release date is in the spring of 2010 which just so happens to be around the same time Republicans will start gearing up for the 2012 Presidential Election.
    http://www.examiner.com/x-14792-Portland-Youth-in-Politics-Examiner~y2009m6d29-Palin-Publisher-President

"In addition to Palin's book deal, she is being offered lucrative speeches and has been approached about talk shows. She is expected to earn millions on the book and other deals once she is out of state government."
    http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2009/07/06/1986929.aspx

Keep the job, and keep getting abused, or quit, sign a $7 - 10 million dollar book deal (a book she can't write while Gov.), and go on a speaking tour, and rake in the bucks?

You are leaving without a job, she isn't....

  7. Just what I originally thought...It's about the Money. She's quiting to cash in.

Those bad people are attacking her unfairly...Her words, not mine. They're bullies!

But there's tape of her saying Hillary shouldn't whine (last year)...but she doesn't see the Irony of that. Oh boy, she needs to grow a thicker skin if she's going to be in the limelight because her books won't sell if she doesn't. In fact, after what Hillary went through, why is she surprised? I have lots of respect for Hillary that I didn't have last year because she soldiered on and earned it. And I think Hillary gains lots of supporters because of it.

Sarah's books may sell, but for all of the wrong reasons. Like a train wreck, nobody will stop rubbernecking the accident.

You didn't even wish us Good Luck.
    Have a nice evening.

  8. Yes, you are right, she needs to grow a thicker skin. Women should not be bothered with being called Cunt, Slut, Stupid, Idiot, Lame, Retarded, etc. She really is too thin skinned....

I think she has a thick skin - her children don't. She states in her speech that her children are sick and tired of the attacks, especially on their baby brother Trig.

She also states that the constant attacks left her unable to do her job because she was constantly bombarded with frivolous lawsuits, that were putting their family in debt, and cost the state +$2Million. She added that she did not want to continue in a job that she was no longer effective, which cost the tax payers money. Obama has spent his life campaigning, meanwhile ignoring his responsibilities. He might not have *quit* but he certainly didn't perform. She is stepping aside so that she is not being paid for a job she can't perform.

    Good luck.

Did you wish Palin and her family good luck? ;O)

  9. Wow, Ms (?) German expat. You say "No one in their right mind quits a job in this recession unless they are pushed against the wall or they are made an offer they can't refuse."

Ummmm...excuse me? The economic climate makes job-getting difficult for commodified jobs, e.g. where you can replace one person with another of similar qualifications. Sarah Palin is obviously not going to look round for a white-or-blue collar job.

She's a known individual, highly unique and recognizable,a nd she's not going to look for a typical job. People who pay her (for a book deal or for a TV show) are going to pick *Sarah Palin*, not *a middle-aged mother of five from a west-coast state*.

Also, she's a politician, and last I checked, in this economy, there are *MORE* politicial and government jobs, not less.

I seem to recognize this comment from a thread in The Confluence - if you're the same person who made that comment, you should really work out the logic of your argument before you make the same one twice.

  10. Never heard of the Confluence. Don't have a clue what it is.

Yes, I wished Ms. Palin the Best...It somehow didn't end up in my post. I think my points about Hillary replaced those thoughts. I added them because Sara in Italy was a PUMA.

    Money, money, money.

  11. Well, it seems from the comments by the ex-pat, that she is dam--d if she does and dam--d if she doesn't.I really do not think that it is about the money. She DID turn down a pay raise as governor earlier this year. I think that her book will sell not because of a "train wreck" but because of the interest she generates. This has been proven by the number of journalists who went to Alaska to get an interview.

  12. Yes, people do forget that ~60 Million people voted for McCain/Palin. There are actually people who like someone besides Obama. hehe

Palin kicked Jackson off the front pages.
