what do you do when buried in rubble for 30 hours?

Crochet, of course.

I just love this little ol' lady - the story of her rescue is one of the few happy moments in an otherwise extremely tragic situation.

An elderly woman spent 30 hours buried beneath the rubble of her home crocheting to pass the time, she told her rescuers.

Maria D'Antuono, 98, was rescued from her home in Tempera yesterday after a powerful earthquake rocked central Italy, killing at least 260 people.

Safe: Maria D'Antuono is interviewed after being rescued from the upper floors of her quake damaged home in Tempera, Italy

Yesterday there was a mass funeral for 205 of the victims. It was so sad seeing all the little coffins.

  1. Thanks for posting a photo of the woman who was rescued. I had read about this elsewhere, but there was no photo of her. She looks great.
